The Audio-Technica U851RB Condenser Boundary Microphone is a phantom-powered audio solution designed for surface-mount applications. This microphone delivers outstanding speech intelligibility and transparent sound quality for high-quality sound reinforcement, professional recording, television, and conferencing. The self-contained electronics eliminate the need for an external power module, streamlining installation in demanding sound pickup situations.
The U851RB incorporates a small-diameter UniPoint element located near the boundary. This placement eliminates phase distortion and ensures clear, high-output performance. The microphone features superior off-axis rejection, which provides maximum gain before feedback. Integrated UniGuard RFI-shielding technology offers outstanding rejection of radio frequency interference to maintain signal integrity. Additionally, an integrated UniSteep® filter helps manage audio frequencies for professional-grade results.
A PivotPoint rotating output connector allows the cable to exit from either the rear or the bottom of the microphone. This feature provides flexibility for various mounting configurations and cable management needs. The U851RB accepts interchangeable condenser elements, allowing users to modify the angle of acceptance. Compatible elements include omnidirectional (360°), cardioid (120°), and hypercardioid (100°) patterns, which are available separately.
The heavy die-cast case ensures long-term durability in professional environments. Non-slip silicone foam bottom pads minimize the coupling of surface vibration to the microphone, reducing unwanted mechanical noise. The low-profile design and low-reflectance finish provide minimum visibility for on-camera or boardroom use. For increased security in permanent installations, threaded inserts on the bottom of the microphone allow for secure mounting with screws.
