The Audio-Technica BP3600 Immersive Audio Microphone provides a high-performance broadcast solution for capturing stable, three-dimensional sound beds. This microphone enables audio professionals to establish immersive images for sporting events, movie sets, concerts, and festivals. The captured audio integrates directly into immersive audio codecs, such as MPEG-H 3D Audio, as an audio channel bed without requiring additional processing.
The BP3600 utilizes an eight-channel near-coincident array to ensure ample spaciousness and controlled separation. The unit consists of eight 3.5-inch (8.8 cm) long microphone assemblies that extend from the main body to form a cube. Each capsule remains equidistant from the center and separated from the others by 15 cm. This specific geometry provides the necessary spatial characteristics for accurate three-dimensional sound reproduction.
Each of the eight microphone assemblies features a 12 mm hypercardioid capsule. These small-diaphragm capsules provide consistent, focused pickup and produce discrete signals for every channel. The hypercardioid polar pattern ensures low diffuse-field correlation between signals. The compact size and lightweight design facilitate quick setup and discreet placement during video broadcasts.
The main unit features TA3F microphone connectors equipped with color-coded and numbered indicator rings for clear channel identification. A 16-pin LEMO output connector resides at the end of the easy-carry grip. The included 16.4-foot (5 m) LEMO-to-XLRM breakout cable routes the eight channels to mixing consoles or audio interfaces. This system requires 48V DC phantom power for each of the eight channels.
Audio-Technica includes water protection caps for the TA3F connectors to guard against rain and other precipitation. A built-in safety ring provides secure suspension when mounting the microphone above spectators in stadiums, grandstands, or auditoriums. The microphone disassembles quickly for storage and transport in the included carrying case.
